Menka Shivdasani
Author of Frazil (1980-2017)
Poet of the Year
Menka Shivdasani is a Mumbai-based poet with four poetry collections. She is co-translator of Freedom and Fissures, an anthology of Sindhi Partition poetry (Sahitya Akademi, 1998). She has edited an anthology of women's writing for SPARROW, two anthologies of contemporary Indian poetry for the American e-zine www.bigbridge.org, and bilingual books by senior Sindhi writer Mohan Gehani. Menka�s work has been widely published, in India and elsewhere, and she has been represented in Indian Literature in English: An Anthology, a University of Mumbai textbook. Menka�s awards include the Ethos Literary Award 2019 and WE Eunice de Souza Award 2020.
Menka co-founded Poetry Circle in Bombay in 1986. She has organised annual poetry festivals since 2011 for 100 Thousand Poets for Change. Menka is Co-Chair, Asia Pacific Writers and Translators (APWT).
Her work as a journalist includes 18 books with Raju Kane, three of which were released by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
