Blockchain Certification
What is a Blockchain?
Blockchain technology in simple terms can be defined as a decentralized, distributed public ledger where every single transaction is permanently recorded and cannot be modified and that records the existence of a digital asset. Since, these networks are decentralized, there is no need for a central authority to guard and manage the ledger, and because it is also distributed, every participant has a transparent and full copy of the ledger.
With blockchain, we can have contracts embedded in digital code that could be identified, validated and stored in transparent, shared databases, where they are protected from tampering. It uses a digital signature feature to conduct fraud-free transactions making it impossible to corrupt the data of an individual by the other users without a specific digital signature. This way, using blockchain technology reduces the security threats and fraudulent activities and gives real-time access to authorized only.
What does it mean to have your work recorded on a permanent distributed public ledger?
The idea is to create a unique and universal fingerprint for every piece of content, based on simple inputs such as a title, the content itself and the date. Let’s call this unique fingerprint, a hash. If any of the inputs changes, then the hash also changes.
When we add this fingerprint to a blockchain, we can prove without a doubt that the content existed at the moment of the blockchain transaction. Timestamping on the blockchain can therefore, prove the existence of the content, forever.
There are four key benefits of the blockchain’s timestamps. First, they’re decentralized so no one entity controls the database of timestamps, and everyone in the network confirms that timestamp has happened. Second, they’re immutable, i.e., a timestamp can’t be undone once it has been verified and recorded. Third, they’re publicly visible, and fourth they are programmable, so, systematic actions, events, and payments can be automated based on certain criteria and triggers.
How does Ukiyoto provide Blockchain Certification to protect your rights & benefit you as an author?
Using the blockchain technology explained above, Ukiyoto Publishing will create unique timestamped records of your WORK it publishes, on the Ethereum blockchain with the particular title details ex. Title Name, Author Name, Date of Publishing & Proof of WORK. This will act as a permanent proof of existence of your WORK recorded in a transparent public ledger. Each book published by Ukiyoto Publishing will have a unique QR code on the back cover (or inside of the title if there are space or visual limitations) which will point to a web page with public blockchain ledger where anyone can verify the book’s certification record. The certification record can be used for digital attribution, proof of existence, prior knowledge, integrity and authenticity. Since the certification and time stamping process is fully decentralized, no third party is required for the user to prove the certification of the document in the future. Authors will be able to prove the certification and timestamping of their books by referring to the book’s fingerprint or in other words all details of the book in the distributed public ledger.
