People’s interest in the kind of literature they enjoy hasn’t changed much in the past decade. The main feelings or end results they seek from reading books has generally been the same; that is, they want to read something happy, or something that gives them knowledge, or something that gives them an insight into a personality’s life.
Perusing through the most bought books section on an online shopping platform was enough of a hint to show what kind of books like to read. The section was dominated by Amish Tripathi and Preeti Shenoy’s books. That is to say, most of the books that had a large number of sales fell into the category of mythology or romance.
If one wants their writing to get a larger reader base, then they should probably focus on writing something that fall under the above mentioned genres.
Besides romance and mythology, there’s another category that, although fewer than the previous two categories, still had a noticeable presence in the bestselling section. This category is biography/autobiography. Most books were by Sudha Murthy and Ruskin Bond, although there were a number of books by different authors as well.
It is important to keep in mind that although there are certain genres that do well than others, it is always the writer’s talent that decides how well the book would market. Polish your techniques and excite your audience, and that would count as a giant step towards success.
